Our services

We want to facilitate electronic assessments at RUB in a controlled and secure environment. The authenticity and integrity of the exams, technical security, compliance with privacy and examination regulations, ease of use, equal opportunity, comparability of the exam conditions and a high quality of exam tasks, questions and activities are our main goals.

We support and advise examinators and students together with the Zentrum für Wissenschaftsdidaktik (ZfW) in all phases of the examination process. Furthermore, we are in charge of the operation of the central e-assessment rooms at the Ruhr University Bochum, exam-related software development and system administration. We are responsible for the technical aspects of the PlagScan portal of RUB, too.

We provide a separate Moodle instance as the examination system in the central e-assessment rooms on campus. The examination system is independent of our central Learning-Management-System (RUB-Moodle) and it is specifically configured for e-assessments.

Piloting phase for digital exams on campus

During summer semester 2022, the multi-phase piloting for digital exams on campus has started.
This piloting is organised and supported by IT.SERVICES and the Zentrum für Wissenschaftsdidaktik. In this context, digital exams can take place in the following rooms on campus:

• MABF 01/556 (PC-Prüfungssaal der Medizinischen Fakultät with 172 seats)
• IA 0/158-79 and IA 0/69 (IT.SERVICES PC-Pool 1 and 2 with 71 + 18 seats)

We'd like to express our gratitude to the Medical Faculty for providing access to their PC examination hall (PC-Prüfungssaal) for the piloting, if available.

Online-Exam: The independent Moodle instance for remote online exams

Since summer semester 2021, the independent Moodle instance for remote online exams at RUB is in operation: Online-Exam. While RUB-Moodle is mainly intended and configured for eLearning, Online-Exam provides an environment that is specifically setup for remote online exams. The capacities for exams with Online-Exam are distributed like room ressources, so that the number of parallel exam activity can be controlled.

Construction of the new E-Assessment-Center in GAFO 04

Good news, everyone! The existing rooms that are suitable for eAsssessments at the Ruhr University Bochum will be substantially expanded. Right now, the Computer-Saal MABF 01/556 of the Medical Faculty with 172 PCs is the largest e-assessment room on campus. In summer semester 2023, the construction of the new E-Assessment-Center in GAFO 04 is scheduled to be finished.

There will be 250 PCs on specifically designed desks. The room can be divided with a mobile partition wall, so that 180 PCs will be available in the large are and 70 PCs will be available in the smaller area.
